Many thanks to all who came to participate in this year’s Synod assembly. I was very glad that Christus Victor was well represented, even sponsoring a resolution on the floor. Among the highlights from the events:
- The Assembly unanimously passed a mission funding plan and compensation guidelines for pastors and deacons. We deliberated on three resolutions: 1) empowering the Synod’s health team to investigate ways churches can combat the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, 2) encouraging congregations to complete the study for the upcoming ELCA social statement on sexism, and 3) reaffirming commitment to welcoming immigrants and refugees.
- Three worship services were held; I served as the preacher for the opening worship.
- We all attended workshops on various topics, including one by Bethany Fayard. We had lots of fun after hours, enjoying a meal together and attending the “Beer and Hymns” event.
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything that came out of the Assembly. It was a great time and I hope you can join me next year in Chattanooga!
